<Shara is sitting behind a tent in the shadows, listening to Queahn and Bac'Bessh and "talking" to Gideon>
Shara: ... Damn, I wish I could understand them, but they're talking BAROC. Do YOU understand that?
Gideon: In fact I do.
Shara: GREAT! So what are they on about? They seem awfully HUSHY and SERIOUS ...
Gideon: Don't worry, they're not plotting anything DEVIOUS, if that's what you're worried about.
---
Shara: So what then?
Gideon: They are more like ... FARM ANIMALS getting nervous a few days before the volcano erupts.
Shara: What is THAT supposed to mean?
Gideon: It means they don't understand what is happening. But they know that there IS a danger.
---
Shara: ... what DANGER?
Gideon: They are RIGHT, Shara. We should NOT stay here for this long. We should leave this place AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Away from this. Away from HER.
Shara: Is that what this is about? Your ... "Mother"? Is she sending people here?
Gideon: She will, sooner or later. She knows I'm free now, and the longer I stay here the easier it is for her to find me.
---
Shara: I already TRIED to get Katharina to hurry up but she's too much in love with the ruins here. She says she doesn't know when she'll be able to get back here so she wants to take as much time as possible ...
Gideon: She should not come back here AT ALL.
---
Gideon: ... You know, Shara ... I feel like your plan to bribe her with information has BACKFIRED.
Shara: Hey, I didn't think I'd make her even MORE curious! I underestimated how much of a NERD she is!

Alt-text: "Shara still has a lot to learn about the mind of a nerd."

Historically, I pretty much glossed over the fact that people are speaking different languages in Yra ... Katharina, Shara and pretty much everyone else near where they currently are knows at least enough of the human language and some dialect ob byzarian to get along (and the scenes with Ki'i'Mar and Co ... we'll they're all speaking tyr'enn, of course).

But there are different languages ... the Serpent Empire has its own one, and a pretty old one at that. Since Serpent's End is pretty close to the Wall and has a sizeable Baroc population it can also come in handy to learn their language when growing up there.

Shara, of course, has grown up quite a ways away and doesn't know more baroc than a few phrases. Luckily, there's Gideon ... (Katharina might actually know some more baroc and tyr'enn, considering she studied them for a while).

Reminder: I will take a break between the years, thus the next two weeks I will just upload some sketches ... regular updates will resume on 2021-01-10!
